What Uords. does
Uords. is an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tool plus a gentle speech-practice mode, built for use by a child together with a parent, guardian, or speech-language pathologist.
- Tap to speak. A grid of word cards organized into categories. Tap a card and the device speaks the word in a clear voice.
- Practice mode. The app shows a target word and listens for the child to say it, with positive feedback when the speech recognizer hears a match. Microphone audio is processed on the device only — never recorded, never uploaded.
- Custom words and photos. Parents can add their own categories, words, and photos through the Parent Dashboard.
- Progress. Track the words a child has practiced and what they're working on, all stored on the device.
- Backup. Export and import a JSON backup so you can move between devices.
Built for kids — really
- No ads. Ever.
- No tracking, no analytics, no accounts.
- No outbound links from the child surface. Anything that could leave the app — settings, support, purchases — lives behind a Parent PIN.
- WCAG 2.1 AA color contrast and tap-target sizing.
- High-Contrast and Large Buttons modes built in.
- Designed in Indiana by uords. LLC, by people who believe every child deserves a voice.
Privacy at a glance
